Geo-Engineering rent-seekers press on despite own models predicting huge downsides

We don’t what caused the pause, we can’t model anything of significance but hey it’s a planetary emergency so we need to nuke the atmosphere. ..we have to kill everyone to save them! !

A bunch of rent seeking nutters let loose. The need locking up not tenure.

Prof Piers Forster, at the University of Leeds, led a project using in-computer models to assess six types of SRM (Solar Radiation Management). All reduced temperatures but all also worsened floods or droughts for 25%-65% of the global population, compared to the expected impact of climate change:

  • mimicking a volcano by spraying sulphate particles high into the atmosphere to block sunlight adversely affected 2.8bn people
  • spraying salt water above the oceans to whiten low clouds and reflect sunlight adversely affected 3bn people
  • thinning high cirrus clouds to allow more heat to escape Earth adversely affected 2.4bn people
  • generating microbubbles on the ocean surface to whiten it and reflect more sunlight adversely affected 2bn people
  • covering all deserts in shiny material adversely affected 4.1bn people
  • growing shinier crops adversely affected 1.4bn people

Scientists Lose The Plot

By Paul Homewood

It’s at times like this that I am ashamed to be British.

The Telegraph report:

Radical, untested techniques to tackle global warming by reflecting the sun’s rays could have “terrifying” consequences, yet may ultimately be needed to prevent catastrophic climate change, scientists have said.

Three Government-funded research projects released on Wednesday assessed the potential of controversial processes known as “geoengineering” – deliberately interfering with the earth’s climate to reverse global warming.

The two main types involve limiting solar radiation to cool the planet, or sucking carbon dioxide – one of the biggest causes of global warming – back out of the atmosphere.

Dr Matthew Watson of the University of Bristol, one of the scientists behind the research, said that techniques that reflect solar radiation to cool the earth could have “profoundly terrifying” negative consequences by shifting extreme drought and rainfall weather patterns to different regions –…

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft comes out of hibernation on December 6 at 3:00 pm EST. Now about 2.9 billion miles (4.6 billion km) from Earth, and 162 million miles (260 million km) from Pluto, the spacecraft will be put through a month-long preparation for its six month flyby of Pluto, with the primary phase of the mission slated to begin on January 15.

New Horizons’ current state of hibernation means that most of the spacecraft’s systems are shut down except for monitors and a weekly beacon-status transmission. So far, the probe has gone through 18 hibernation phases since it launched in 2006. This works out to 1,873 days in hibernation or two-thirds of the Pluto flyby mission.

The hibernation technique, which NASA pioneered, is a way of conserving onboard resources, cutting down on mission control personnel time, reducing time…

Piers Corbyn – Met Office Winter Forecast is “Foolish babble from deluded charlatans and should be ignored”

WeatherAction News

On the 24th October the UK Met Office released their 3 month forecast for ‘contingency planners’ covering the period November-January. Over the past week a stream of media articles appeared predicting a mild, wet and windy winter based upon the ‘form horse’. WeatherAction’s Piers Corbyn, is not impressed that we are effectively being flogged another dead horse.

“All the Met Office warnings of extreme winter or summer seasons since 2007 have been the opposite to what took place – recall the ‘BBQ’/fine summers which turned out as floods (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012) or the mild near-snow-free winters (in line with Co2 warmist catechism) for 2009-10 and 2010-11 which in reality had record cold and snow – and so the list goes on”, said Piers at WeatherAction’s London Bridge Office 12th Nov.

“The problem for the public is that because this cabal of charlatans (as far as long range forecasts go)…

Another Climate Change Ransom Note

Big Picture News, Informed Analysis

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: threatening us with hellfire and damnation.

This piece was written for the Frontier Centre for Public Policy – which published and distributed it to Canadian news outlets last week. It has since appeared in the Calgary Beacon.

On November 2, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sent humanity a ransom note. In the words of the UK-based cartoonist known as Josh, its message was: “Give us trillions or you will fry!! There will be storms floods droughts winds and pestilence. We really mean it this time.”

The IPCC’s most recent document is is a 100-page summary of a multi-thousand-page opus released in three instalments over the past 14 months. While the public is told this report – the fifth of its kind – is a scientific assessment of the state of the world’s climate, the truth is more complicated.

Did NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover Find Fish Fossil On Mars ?

Photoshop and mischief.

Curiosity Mars rover has provided numerous intriguing insights into the mysteries of the Red Planet since it landed on the Martian surface two years ago. It has also supplied armchair astronomers with plenty of fringe theories about the planet that unfortunately seem to catch more attention on the internet than the actual research being done on Mars.

Last month, amateur observers were quick to conclude photo-error unusualities on images taken by the rover as evidence for alien existence. A report gave details on how “experts” on social media, like YouTuber “Martian Archelogist” [sic], interpreted tricky lighting on rocks as actual elongated skulls left behind by otherworldly civilizations. These and other similar claims have either been disregarded or debunked by real researchers.

A more recent Mars “alien evidence” story has been circulating on social media for the past few days, detailing how Curiosity…

Uranus Is ‘Incredibly Active’ Say Astronomers

Solar system wide climate changes.

Astronomers are extremely excited that Uranus is “incredibly active” and is experiencing significant turbulence.

It’s been a crazy few days in the galaxy far beyond as not only did we have the first ever successful landing on a moving asteroid but according to astronomers, Uranus is “incredibly active”.

Now you’re probably thinking that’s a wonderful punchline for a joke about your anus, but shame on you as that’s no such thing.

This is a very serious topic as a healthy and productive Uranus is vital to the well being of your system, uh, solar system I should say.

In the past Uranus has been void of much action, though it seems as if things are starting to spice up on Uranus and it’s not from a poor choice in diet as the planet has been experiencing a significant amount of unusual activity…

Where have all the walrus gone?

Yes, I wondered too. After all the kerfuffle at the beginning of the month there’s been rather dead silence [see my last post here]. So I Googled and found some tidbits.

Chukchi Sea walrus, June 2014. US Fish and Wildlife Service. Chukchi Sea walrus, June 2014. US Fish and Wildlife Service.

An article a few days ago at one media outlet (October 8, 2014) asked someone from the WWF what happened to the ~35,000 females and calves onshore near Point Lay, Alaska — because really, who else would you ask? Or, perhaps more to the point, would anyone at USGS be expected to answer?

And one online media outlet found walrus specialists in Alaska unwilling to lay all the blame for the recent massive haulout at Point Lay at the feet of low Arctic ice levels due to global warming. See what you think.

UPDATE added below October 13, 2014

From the BusinessInsider:

According to a spokesperson…
