That is really neat to see the years together like that.

A Lead Author of IPCC AR5 Downplays Importance of Climate Models
Bob Tisdale - Climate Observations
Richard Betts heads the Climate Impacts area of the UK Met Office. The first bullet point on his webpage under areas of expertise describes his work as a climate modeler. He was one of the lead authors of the IPCC’s 5th Assessment Report (WG2). On a recent thread at Andrew Montford’s BishopHill blog, Dr. Betts left a remarkable comment that downplayed the importance of climate models.

Graphic shows the immense size of Rosetta’s comet and risks such large objects pose to Earth
Wow!
Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, just 3km wide, would vaporize Los Angeles if the comet impacted the city. However, this graphic was produced to show the comet’s size. Churyumov-Gerasimenko doesn’t cross Earth’s orbit and there is no chance of a near-Earth collision.
August 2014 – SPACE – Our sense of scale tends to adjust to circumstances. So when we think about comets it is easy to compare them with other astronomical objects. In which case comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, just 3km wide, sounds tiny. However, as you can see in the image above, things look rather different when you compare the comet to something we are really familiar with – such as tall buildings. While Churyumov-Gerasimenko is small enough that one could walk from one end to the other fairly in less than an hour, it’s easy to forget the three dimensional nature of something like this – 3km across is no big deal, but…

Met Office’s Julia Slingo gets ready for winter
Lol.
Whatever the weather brings us this winter, I’ve prepared a statement for the Met Office’s Chief Propagandist Scientist Dame Julia Slingo to use.
The recent [insert] weather is what we’d expect to see with [climate change]/[global warming]. We are loading the dice for more [insert] winters.
All the evidence suggests [insert] are linked to [climate change]/[global warming].
😀
Quote of the week – the numerology of “dialing in” climate science
This quote from ETH Zurich is actually from another just published post, but it is so grating, so anti-science, that it deserves its very own thread to highlight it.
Here it is:

2014 will be a SCORCHER!
Long-range weather forecast for UK reveals 2014 will be a SCORCHER!
BRITAIN is set to roast in a THREE-MONTH heatwave that could smash ALL summer weather records, forecasters claimed tonight.Published: Wed, April 9, 2014

That was not the Met Office, wise. Couple of days ago (maybe 17th August) there was muttering about a ground frost in a few places if the wind falls light. Wind has been pulling in Artic air for some days now.
Night 17th/18th Exeter Airport dropped to 5.8C, far south west of England. Previous night Breamar Scotland 8.8C, traditionally the coldest place.
Central heating here wanted to trip on first thing in the morning over the past few days, mean temperature outside well below setpoint.

Science Eats Her Young – Consensus vs Correctness, the Scientific vs the Political and the happy news of the unkown unknown
Excellent read. Thanks.
Karl Popper, the godfather of falsifiability [© phi studios 2014]
There is a new guest article up at Judy Curry’s blog, Climate Etc. by Will Howard titled Appeals to the Climate Consensus Can Give the Wrong Impression that is of particular interest to Meme Merchants because it is both relevant in scientific current affairs and is also relevant generally in the discussion of scientific epistemology in regards to how people generally are supposed to know what the state of the science is at any given moment.
The article was originally posted at The Conversation. Will Howard is a Research Scientist at University of Melbourne School of Earth Sciences and is also the Deputy Chair of the Australian National Committee for Antarctic Research.
On the current events front of science, there is a bitter and on-going debate about the supposed scientific consensus regarding anthropogenic global warming due the volume of…

Electric Universe – Watch “Rosetta Mission Findings: No Room for Dirty Snowballs”
New Attribution Research
For the first time in science history, I have been able to distinguish between natural sea level rise, and Mann-made sea level rise.
I accomplished this through careful research into the standard practices used by climate scientists looking for attention and future funding. My approach uses the tried and true technique of “just making shit up, to blame humans for something which has always happened”
1896 : Scientists Excited About “Taking” America’s Rarest Owl
Scientists love of decimating raptor populations extends back to long before they discovered wind farms.
